Last weekend in St. John, NB, six members of the Scottish Senior Women’s Team represented Quebec at the Eastern Championships. Megan Copeland Dinan, Jackie Tittley, Ashley Strike, Allison MacCormack, Simone Savaray and Alex Ellis were all key players in Quebec’s second place finish. Easterns proved to be a good competition to prepare the team for their upcoming NWL Championship July 31-Aug 3 in Montreal where they will face Ontario and an Atlantic Selects team in a round robin “winner takes all” style tournament.

While this was Savaray and Ellis’s first official tour with the Quebec team, Strike returns to the team from last year, for Copeland Dinan it is her third, and fifth for MacCormack and Tittley. Heading into NWLs the team will also be joined by Natasha Smith, who was not with team for Easterns as she was representing Canada at the Super Series in Alberta.

Asya Bartley and Jacey Murphy, of the Scottish Senior Women, will also be playing rep rugby this summer. Bartley and Murphy will both be with Ontario at NWLs while Murphy represented Canada at the Super Series as well.

Both Bartley and Copeland Dinan are nationally long-listed as well and hope to represent Canada in the next year.

Our club provides a consistent time and space for these elite players to come together, maintain and hone their skills for when they are called to their representative teams. The club has grown in numbers and talent in recent years and will continue to do so by recruiting and supporting these high level athletes. This summer, many of these athletes have also stepped up into a new role, as player-coaches. These players have brought to the table their multiple years of high level experience and a broad spectrum of specialty skills on the field.
