OTTAWA, May 20th,2016/BSRFC/- Ottawa’s Barrhaven Scottish Rugby Football Club is pleased to announce that June 4th will be the clubs first official club day of the season as well as a very special event to rename their pitch at Ken Ross Park as “Rowan’s Pitch”. The Naming Ceremony will commence at 12:10 PM.
Ken Ross Park located at 600 Longfields Dr. in Barrhaven Ontario will see the rugby field which is home to Ottawa’s Barrhaven Scottish Rugby Football Club renamed as “Rowan’s Pitch”.
Rowan Stringer was a 17 year old rugby player who succumbed to complications from multiple undiagnosed concussions in May 0f 2013. Since then Rowan’s Law the push for legislation in Ontario to provide tools for players, parents, coaches and trainers to diagnose and better respond to concussions has been gaining traction, spearheaded by a group of passionate individuals including M.P.P. Lisa Macleod and Rowan’s Parents Gordon and Kathleen.

Many delegates will be in attendance including Lisa and the Stringers, as well as councillors Jan Harder and Jody Mitic who both played pivotal roles in getting city approval for the renaming of the city.
The full day will have a rugby festival atmosphere as teams from the Scottish Club will be playing all day. The morning kicks off at 9 am with the mini’s program and continues on with matches including Junior players capped off with the Senior Men and Senior Women’s teams in competition.
The event will be fully catered as Ross Your Independent Grocer will have their food truck on site serving up burgers and hot dogs, as well a special occasion permit has been granted those of legal drinking age can enjoy beer offerings from Bells Corners based microbrewery Whiprsnapr Brewing Co.
