The first weekend of June truly means that summer has arrived and also marked the third week of the season for the Barrhaven Scottish RFC. What better way to enjoy the sunshine then by competing on the rugby pitch and that’s exactly what a Scottish teams did this past weekend.

On Saturday the Juniors travelled to the Montreal area to challenge the Beaconsfield RFC, the Senior Women hit the road for the their first away game versus the Montreal Barbarians and the Old Boys travelled down the 401 to battle the Kingston Panthers and Cobourg Saxons.  The Senior Men’s team had a week off but will be gearing up for their next match against the Town of Mount Royal RFC.

The Juniors fought hard against the Beaconsfield squad and showed a lot of heart but ultimately at the sound of the final whistle were on the wrong side of the scoreboard. Needless to say, they are already looking ahead to their next match and are sure to put on a good showing this upcoming week.

The Senior Women continue to string together victories and now have three wins to start the season. The final score versus the Montreal Barbarians was 48-24. They will welcome the Town of Mount Royal RFC to town this week in an attempt to continue their winning ways.

The Old Boy’s met in Kingston where a round robin of sorts played out. In the initial game the Barrhaven Scottish Old Boy’s took on the Cobourg Saxon Old Boy’s. So it was essentially SOB’s vs SOB’s. The Barrhaven side kept it close but ended up falling one try short. In the second match the two SOB teams combined to face the Kingston Old Boy’s squad. Not much ground was given either way with the match ending in a 20-20 tie.

It the post match festivities, Scottish Old Boy’s team member, Chris Bjornestad, provided three of his recently published books, My Rugby ABC Book, as a man of the match prize. Thanks for the gesture Chris and congratulations on the success of the book. My Rugby ABC Book
