Winter training is well underway and we now have over 100 players registered which is great news for all. We are aware that there is an issue for new registrants trying to join winter training and we are in consultation with Rugby Ontario and Rugby Canada to resolve the issues. If you know of someone who is trying to join but is unable, please let me know so I am aware of those impacted.

In other wonderful news, we have been awarded $4500 from Rugby Canada as part of the Pathways to Empowerment program designed to grow the sport at the grassroots level in the local community.

  • $3,500 – $4,500
  • 5 + schools · 3–4 weeks of in-school coaching, followed by a school festival that brings together all participating schools and a Try Rugby event that includes a welcome activity for parents, the school, and community members.

As part of our application, we said we wanted to encourage more students from Barrhaven schools to join the club. To that end, Adele McCleery and Adam Peck have drafted an email to send to the following schools tomorrow letting them know we have these funds and are willing to provide some non contact coaching in their schools. We anticipate starting after March break and must be complete by the second week of June. At this stage, we don’t know who will take up the offer and what times they will have available but we want to be prepared and want to ask if anyone is willing to coach at any of the schools listed below or maybe they know of another school that would fit the profile. If you are interested, please reach out to Adele McCleery (juniorsdirector@barrhavenscottish.com) and if you are interested but do not have coaching qualifications, please reach out to Sharon Priestman (coachingdevelopment@barrhavenscottish.com) as she will be able to provide direction and support.

In addition, Elgin Street Public School have also asked for someone to coach rugby and although not in the Barrhaven catchment, we could support this request as part of the funding too. As ever, thanks for your continued support and wish you a wonderful week. Anne
