Barrhaven Scottish Youth Rugby Programs

These programs for U12 and U14 players follow the integrated framework of Rugby Ontario Long Term Rugby Development (LTRD) model to facilitate the development of rugby players at all levels of participation and experience. 

U12 Boys and Girls (born in 2013-2014)

U12 players are in the “Learn to Train” stage of the Long-Term Player Development Model. The focus of this program is on learning fundamental rugby skills, such as passing, catching, running, kicking and tackling. The focus of training is on introducing core technical skills and developing coordination and fine motor control. This age group is co-ed.

Program dues include:

  • Spring indoor dome training (1 x week)
  • Outdoor practices (2 x week)
  • Rugby Canada/Rugby Ontario trained and certified coaches at all events
  • Rugby Canada insurance coverage and dues
  • Rugby Ontario dues
  • Barrhaven Scottish RFC dues

U14 Boys and Girls (born in 2011-2012)

U14 players are in the “Train to Train” stage of the Long-Term Player Development Model. The focus of this stage of development is on continuing to develop the basic technical skills, as well as introducing basic tactical skills and mental skills (e.g., mental preparation, coping skills). The major focus of training is on learning the basics as opposed to competing.

Program dues include:

  • Spring indoor dome training (1 x week)
  • Outdoor practices (2 x week)
  • Rugby Canada/Rugby Ontario trained and certified coaches at all events
  • Rugby Canada insurance coverage and dues
  • Rugby Ontario dues
  • Barrhaven Scottish RFC dues

Practicalities

What to bring: water bottle, cleats (soccer or rugby), mouth guard (boil and form is adequate)

What to wear: cleats, layers of comfortable active wear that is strong enough to withhold contact sessions
