It has been a fantastic week for women’s rugby, culminating in the Rugby World Cup final in England. It was great seeing so many people at the watch party at The Royal Oak and at LaSalle Secondary School celebrating the grit and determination of an incredible team. I was honoured to be asked to speak on behalf of the club on two occasions this week about the impact of the World Cup on grassroots rugby and you can read and listen to the articles using the links below:

Team Updates

This week six teams entered the Ontario provincial finals and BSRFC was the only club to have entries in all six categories and I want to thank all the coaches for their efforts and all the players for their hard work.

  • Gold: The U16 girls finished their season as Ontario champions for both 15s and 7s – what an incredible year for these girls! We are so proud and delighted for you.
  • Silver: The U18 girls claimed silver as did the U14 boys. The boys showed great teamwork and a spirited win over our cross-town rivals got us to the finals, in which the Beach proved a bridge too far.
  • Honorable mentions. The U16 boys came 5th, U18 boys came 8th and U14 girls came 9th. Given that there are over 50 clubs in Ontario, we can be proud of all our teams, our club and our region.

Congratulations

Grace Dingwall (U18G) has been named one of the RBC Training Ground Top 100 athletes who will compete at the 2025 National Final. These 100 athletes will compete in Vancouver, BC on November 1 for funding and continued support through the program as an RBC Future Olympian. We congratulate Grace and wish her every success in the national final.

Jessica Algie Van Winden, our wonderful athletic therapist, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Adeline Johanna on September 24, we wish mum and baby well.
