Barrhaven Scottish Junior Rugby Programs

These programs for U18 and U16 players follow the integrated framework of Rugby Ontario Long Term Rugby Development (LTRD) model to facilitate the development of rugby players at all levels of participation and experience.

U16 Boys and Girls (born in 2009-2010)

U16 players are in the “Train to Train” stage of the LTRD model. The focus of this stage of development is on continuing to develop the basic technical skills, as well as introducing basic tactical skills and mental skills (e.g., mental preparation, coping skills). The major focus of training is on learning the basics as opposed to competing.

Program dues include:

  • Spring indoor dome training (1 x week)
  • Two outdoor practices per week, and all matches until completion of play-offs
  • Rugby Canada/Rugby Ontario trained and certified coaches at all events
  • Certified Athletic Therapists at all home games
  • Rugby Canada insurance coverage and dues
  • Rugby Ontario dues
  • Barrhaven Scottish RFC dues

U18 Boys and Girls (born in 2007-2008)

U18 players are in the “Train to Compete” stage of the LTRD model. The focus of this stage of development is on learning to perform in competition situations. This stage of development includes a focus on refining core technical skills (i.e., getting better and better), developing mental skills and developing decision-making skills. The focus of training is on using competition exercises to identify and address weak points in skills, as well as learn how to “read and react” to the situation.

Both U18 teams compete in two competitions, namely the Ontario Junior Provincial U18 Cup and the Eastern Ontario Regional U18 League. We also play in exhibition games and host touring sides.

Program dues include:

  • Spring indoor dome training (1 x week)
  • Two outdoor practices per week, and all matches until completion of play-offs
  • Rugby Canada/Rugby Ontario trained and certified coaches at all events
  • Certified Athletic Therapists at all home games
  • Rugby Canada insurance coverage and dues
