Good afternoon all,

Wonderful to see so many of you celebrating on Friday night as Canada dominated England and came out victorious. I am sure there were a lot of sore throats with all the screaming but it was definitely worth it.

I would like to take a moment to recognize the efforts of one of our very own who played a large role behind the scenes (with occasional appearances on the big screen). Scottish Senior Women’s coach John Ruff has been working with Team Canada as part of their management setup throughout their recent home stand. John’s job is to make sure the players and coaches can focus on the game, filling water bottles, pumping up the balls, driving people to the airport, generally filling in wherever needed. You may even have noticed him helping Canada fullback Savanna Bauder from the field after her ankle injury. John has had the privilege of supporting both Canada’s senior women’s and men’s teams, and is the go-to for the New Zealand Black Ferns when they are in town. These top-tier teams have learned what our club has known for over a decade; that John is as reliable and committed as can be, and can be counted on to always be there when we need him. I can think of no better reward for a rugby volunteer than to have been able to be on the pitch celebrating with the Canadian Women after their two famous victories over England. Congratulations, John!
